The Minnesota Association of Naturopathic Physicians (MNANP) is the resource for locating Naturopathic Doctors in Minnesota who have graduated from a federally-accredited naturopathic medical school. Click here to find a Naturopathic Doctor in your area. In addition to being a professional organization, the MNANP is a leading advocate for consumers of natural health care.
Naturopathic Doctors who are members of the MNANP hold Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine degrees from four-year graduate-level naturopathic medicine programs accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education (CNME). The CNME is the only US Department of Education recognized accrediting body for graduate-level naturopathic medical programs and postdoctoral programs in naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic Doctors are trained at one of five U.S. or two Canadian schools of naturopathic medicine. Naturopathic Doctors take rigorous professional board exams so that he or she may be licensed or registered by a state, province or jurisdiction as a primary care general practice doctor.
On May 23, 2008 Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty signed House File 1724 into law, a bill to register Naturopathic Doctors. Naturopathic Doctors will be required to have graduated from institutions accredited by the CNME and to have passed the Naturopathic Physicians Licensing Examinations (NPLEX) national exam. Naturopathic Doctors will be required to register starting on July 1, 2009 and will be regulated under the Medical Board’s Registered Naturopathic Doctor Advisory Council (which will to be established under the provisions of the statute). The bill also includes the formation of a Health Task Force, which will develop recommendations and proposed legislation, as necessary, on regulating the profession.
Minnesota is now the 15th U.S. state to regulate the practice of naturopathic medicine. Alaska, Arizona, California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Idaho, Kansas, Maine, Montana, New Hampshire, Oregon, Utah, Vermont, Washington, the District of Columbia, and the United States territories of Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands have registration and licensing laws for naturopathic doctors. Please see What is Naturopathic Medicine and Legislative Action to learn more about regulation for NDs.
All naturopathic members of the AANP and the MNANP follow the Naturopathic Code of Ethics listed below. Today the organization has become the unifying body for graduate-level trained Naturopathic Doctors in Minnesota. The MNANP holds regular meetings, elects officers, and maintains an operating budget. The MNANP is a state affiliate of the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP).
