MNANP Board of Directors Position Statement on Recent Immigration Enforcement Action in Minnesota

The MNANP stands in solidarity with our immigrant communities and all Minnesotans impacted by recent actions of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in our state.

As Naturopathic Doctors, we are committed to the health and wellbeing of all Minnesota residents, regardless of background, immigration history, or citizenship status. Guided by our ethical principle to first do no harm, we are dedicated to providing care that affirms dignity, safety and trust for every person that we serve. It is both a privilege and a responsibility to care for our communities.

We stand with our colleagues across other healthcare professions in opposing policies and condemning actions that restrict healthcare access and contribute to harm for any and all people in Minnesota.

Communities cannot remain healthy when people are afraid to leave their homes to work, obtain food, attend school or seek medical care. Fear driven barriers to healthcare access have profound and lasting consequences for individual health, public health and community wellbeing.

We are deeply saddened by the inhumane treatment of our community members, and our hearts go out to the families, friends, and loved ones of those who have been harmed, killed, displaced, or lost. We grieve the lives lost, including Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who took action to protect and assist their neighbors, embodying the care and courage necessary when others are in need.

Despite this pain, what remains abundantly and undeniably clear is the resilience of Minnesotans and our commitment to one another. We will continue to show up for our patients and our communities. We will continue supporting those in need by addressing their physical and mental health so that they may thrive in their neighborhoods, schools and workplaces.
